Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah". Haunting song, but what does it really mean?

I know it's a Leonard Cohen song. But Jeff Buckley's version is very haunting. But I'm not sure what the song is about. I know it's dark and full of irony. But what does it mean? Especially the line "But you don't really care for music, do you". Help me understand the great song if you can.
