My cat has an obsession with socks.?

Kind of a silly thing but my male tabby cat had an odd habit and I was wondering if anyone has heard of this before. At night (usually) when the lights have been turned off, he will go into my room or my housemates room and drag socks (sometimes other small article of clothing, but normally socks) into the common room and cuddle with them while meowing loudly. It's kind of adorable actually, every morning we come out to see socks all over the floor. Just curious if any other cat owners have pets that share this oddity or if anyone might have a suggestion for why he does that. Thanks!
