Does Islam promote wife beating?

I don't necessarily think that particular video had the correct subtitles/translation but I can say from first hand experience from being an American woman once married to a Muslim man. Yes, if I behaved in a way or said something he didn't like at the wrong time he did indeed beat me. It happened suddenly like the bite of a coiled snake and lasted about 20 seconds. I never felt the same about him after that and I divorced him.
